RHCP Plagiarize the White Stripes!

Sign in to disble this ad
The new RHCP song, Dani California - Well if you listen to the intro, before the vocals start, it is the almost exactly like the White Stripes song "my Doorbell".

I knew that the first time I heard the intro to Dani California, it strongly reminded me of something, I just couldn't place it. Then I heard the accusations about RHCP plagiarizing Tom Petty and I thought that while that was a good observation, it still was not what I was trying to think of… Later it finally occurred to me what I was hearing. Every time I hear the intro to Dani California I want to start singing "I've been thinking about my doorbell, when you gonna ring it? When you gonna ring it?"

So, Um yes - The point is: The White stripes have clearly Plagiarized Tom Petty and should be punished for their crimes against humanity...

I'm seriously getting sick of this "Band X plagerizing Band Z" crud. Next thing you know, Paris Hilton's new album will be ripping off something pathetic like the Moldy Peaches.

I see no similarity at all between Dani California and that White Stripes song. They both have drums intros, but they're different drums intros, the chords after the drums are different too.

Not to mention that your song has a cleverly placed 8th note rest at the last note of each 'dada' triplet, with another immediately following, and Queen...Bah! A slapdash quarter-note rest, the lazyboned hacks.

RHCP has also copied the intro for "Can't stop" from Jeff Buckley's "Eternal life". Damn RHCP has clearluy plagiarized everything from someone.

And if you use your imagination you'll realize that Jeff Buckley copied the intro for "Eternal life" from Smashing Pumpkins' "Cherub Rock", cause like Jeff Buckley is listening to it in the "Grace" documentary.

The guitarist I play with said something that sounds fairly true "You can't really write anything that hasn't been written anymore." The point being that you can listen to almost anything and find someone else who already wrote it.

I know all about the Tom Petty thing, that's why I made this thread, it's a lame attempt at humor that was supposed to satire the Tom Petty thing. I think most people missed that...

I too am a big fan of the RHCP and I think that all of the accusations of plagiarism are just silly.

...but I still don't know of any legal action taken against the Peppers. You say that there is a lawsuit against them, but I haven't heard anything about that. Is that an assumption that you are making, or do you have a source? FYI, the article you linked says: "Tom Petty is reportedly considering legal action against the Red Hot Chili Peppers..."

Reportedly considering. In other words, this is unsubstantiated gossip and all that they really know is that nothing has been filed in the court system.

I have it on good authority that John Turner is reportedly considering switching to playing only 4 and sometimes 3 string bass guitars.

So true. There are only so many notes, etc etc. There is bound to be similarities at some point. Since this is a bass forum, let me ask a question, then answer it, and ask for your opinion... Are the bass lines the same?

I say no effing way. Guitar and lyrics maybe, but if you don't really listen the drums and bass combined in Tom Petty's song sound like Dani California.

her cd isn't out yet, but she's got a few videos on the internet...i can't remember the website, but just do a google search for "Jenna Jameson Video" and you can see that Paris took a lot from that performance...
