He is right about winging it...

A couple of comments even mention never seen or heard a ric played in that fashion...is that the abuse you speak of?

Jesus, you scared me! I thought he was going to build into a flurry of distortion and smash his bass.

It was a pretty lame solo... and ripping off Stu Hamm, meh, do your own thing. But far from abuse.

Heh, I can almost hear the singer backstage before the show saying "Hey Jamie, do that twiddly, slappy, hillbilly thing you do when you practice for a solo tonight."

Overall it's nice to see someone play a Ric like that.

Well....
I'm not trying to offend you, it's just a common mistake some people make.
It was incoherent. Throwing a heap of building materials together is not yet a house. You have to build up the groove. Keep little motives you start from and where you get back to.
You have the technique, just don't loose sight of that important part about musical instruments: music. There's a point beyond which virtuosity sacrifices musicality.
IMO and no hard feelings.

Well i'll give him credit, he's a hell of a lot faster than I am, but I wouldn't necessarily call that a solo....more like jacking around.

It was OK, but it did seem sort of like he strung together a few licks he learned on instructional videos. Still, it was OK.

That was in no way virtuosity. His time was very bad, and the technique was silly and non-musical.

Didn`t impress me too much, but I like to see Ricks played the way they`re not supposed to be played.

All the Rics I've tried, including the one I own, have always been terrific for tapping. They are so light to play that it would be a shame not to tap on one.

The "solo" was quite boring, but I am not wondering at all why he wants to do tapping stuff on that instrument.

p.s. No, I can't tap, but I do try once in a while.
