Robin Thicke: Something Else

I just picked this up on Saturday because the wife, kids, and I, love his single, "Magic." This dude is smokin'! The bass playing on this CD is great too. If you love the feel on the classic "Lowdown" by Boz Scaggs, check out Thicke's jam, "Sidestep" it really evokes that feel that Hungate and Porcaro got back in the day. His single,"Magic" really reminds me of later Motown productions of the recently deceased Norman Whitfield. For those who don't know, that would be stuff like Eddie Kendricks "Keep On Truckin'" or the Temptations "Papa Was a Rolling Stone."

I like the "old school" sound.

I have the cd too and it's a killer. It's about time somebody is writing some real R&B songs! Have you checked out Raphael Saadiq's newest one? Same vibe but also recorded to sound dated! I dig it.

I like this as well - good musicianship and songwriting - and he's a very good singer!

Raphael Saadiq's CD's recording is deceptive. It sounds old school, but if you listen to it on a booming system, you will hear that the drums are mixed far higher and more upfront that they ever were on the old Sixties songs.

It's not a good as the first CD, but still ok. As for someone "writing" real R&B? that credit goes to the writers of the tunes that were sampled.
