Rock Album of the Year ?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hands up ... who likes to ROCK !!?!?

What good rock albums have you all heard lately?

The new DOWN album "III - Over the Under" is what's been passing for Christmas cheer in my household. 100% pure killer and no filler. Should appeal a great deal to fans of Clutch, Sabbath, C.O.C., etc.

Leadoff single - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FduX...eature=related

My fave track - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ml3Q...eature=related

I think I'm finally getting over Keenan spending time on Down instead of Corrosion of Conformity and I'm very glad I gave this album a chance.

Any older guys that are always whining about new music all being crap, stop showing your jaded ignorance - get this album, crank it loud, & be glad you're so wrong.

Bonus - http://www.google.ca/url?q=http://ww...OapmpecerrslOQ

Keep rockin' in '09 !!

Down III didn't hold my interest for too long, and I've been a pretty big fan of theirs since the beginning.

Good call ! I saw these guys twice last year. WOW, can they play!

It'd be cool if everyone could post a link to an MP3 or YouTube clip you think is a good example of the albums you're digging.

I honestly can't believe people think Death Magnetic belongs at the top of any Best Of list, I even saw it at the #1 spot in some pop/metal magazine the other day. Sure, it might be the best they've done in well over a decade, but come on. If that's the best rock and/or roll you've heard this year, you aren't seeking out great music. Note that I actually enjoy the album, but really, it is pretty average at best. Oh well, who am I to judge the taste of another?

Anyhow, here is a link to a live version of Moon by Colour Haze, and it is amazing. The ending to this song is absolutely spellbinding. Please listen.

Hey nad,

I was looking at some Colour Haze yesterday, but I don't know where to begin.

Any recommendations?

Gods of the Earth-The Sword, and Nude with Boots-Melvins kinda did it for me this year.

Kings of Leon - Only By The Night:

In fact - this is the first time in many years that i agree with the Grammy nominations - they got 3 for this album:

Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals: Sex On Fire
Best Rock Song: Sex On Fire
Best Rock Album: Only By The Night

Well deserved IMO.

Anywhere really. I have not heard their first two albums (Chopping Machine and Seven), but all their others are nearly equally incredible. I would say Periscope and the self-titled are the easiest to get into quickly though, the former being really heavy and the latter more spacey, if that makes sense. All is the only album of theirs that didn't hook me at first listen, but after many months it is turning into my favourite.
