Well for a rock fan trying to get into jazz I would take that route before I take the best 25 jazz albums of all times route. Since genre fans, veteran listeners and critics tend to put those together and not the general citizen who listens to many genres or no jazz at all. I believe in crawl, walk, and then run. I mean a four part A Love Supreme for someone who hasn't listened to jazz before seems rather ambitious to me. It is like introducing classical music with a single sympathy rather then edited versions used in movie soundtracks.

I would choose more accessible stuff Like Vince Guaraldi's charlie brown themes. Maybe some grooving (funk) organ trios, The Crusaders/Jazz Crusaders.

I've been listening to some early Miles Davis and just copped The Crusaders - Southern Comfort which is awesome and so up my alley! Thanks for suggesting them.
