OK, I'm not above plagiarizing a really good idea. I'll even give rockinjc credit for it:

Name your favorites for recording most undeserving of the bass line bestowed upon it (extra credit for naming the poor bassist).

First nomination:
"It's Over" Johnny Mathis/Deneice Williams

Eli-still no takers?
"OK", I'll embarrass myself(as I played these in bands, in public, in a different time,...)
"Everybody Dance"-Chic(Bernard Edwards)
"Car Wash"-Rose Royce(Lequeint Jobe...always wished I could pull off those bass breaks).
"Take Your Time(Do It Right)"-SOS Band(John Alexander Simpson...had to look this guy's name up).
"Wake Me Up(Before You Go-Go"-Wham!(yeah,...I know; what the Hell, Dion Estes plays a cool part).
Next...

Bless me, Jaco, for I have commercialized...

He're we going now...

Village People - Macho Man
Any cool Kool&thegang hit (Ladies' Night ; Hi de Ho, Jungle Boogie...)
Diana Ross - Upside Down (ther's a live version of the song where the bassist is completely crazy and funks his ass off as never)

Subsubsubsub topic cartoon&series riffs :

Inspector Gadget : american movie but 20 years old french cartoon first !
Ever listen to the bass riff of Airwolf (this mega copter who rescue everyone) ? Cool slap riff (yet here the only real instrument is bass).
I still play the Magnum theme with my band. It's really cool !
Knight Rider theme ; 3 bass notes but very impressive.

Hey with this topic I'm 10 years old one more time !

Can't remember the american title of this TV show. You know there was this big black man with 3 kilograms of gold around his neck ; there was another who smoked cigars, there was the fool, and another who had much success with girls.

Ah, they had a big black van.

And the theme was cool.

In france, it's called 'All Risk Agency'. The theme is cool.

If you have a problem. If noone else can help. And if you can find them. Maybe you can hire... the A-Team.

There was a time in American TV-land where some pretty "cool" themes were being played by some pretty happenin' sessioneers of the day-
S.W.A.T...Scott Edwards on bass
Baretta...Will Lee?
Starsky & Hutch...again, maybe Will Lee?
Sanford & Son-Definitely Chuck Rainey!

"The Jetsons"!! Could never cover the violin parts to play it live though. We do the Pink Panther sometime and who can forget Barney Miller.

I used to use the theme from Barney Miller as a sound check exercise. Also count in the theme from the Muppets.

With the exception of the cover tunes "Everytime You go Away" and "Tear Your Playhouse Down", the bulk of Paul Young's songs were pretty bogus. However, Pino Palladino made them shine with his brilliant bass work.
