so i'm looking to leave my band and we probably won't be able to finish the album that we are trying to finish anyways because the drummer is moving in two weeks so i want to record on my laptop but i have NO idea how to do so, although i know it cam be done, i'd like to be able to record my bass nice and clearly as well as program drum beats into the recording

so... starting from scratch what do i need to buy/do to accomplish this goal?

Been pondering the same thoughts. Did some checking. Found that a USB interface would be needed. I wanted to record from our mixer using a line level out. It is easy to do as I understand if you have teh gear.

I'm thinking you need either a direct patch from ya bass to this USB interface device(new to me) or a DI out from your amp into said device. Or the line level out from a mixer.
