I bought Moving Pictures (Tom Sawyer & YYZ, so sick) and now want another CD by 'em. What would you recommend? |

Also, I think their newest, Snakes & Arrows, is absolutely killer, and the best they have put out in years.

For their more extended songs, found on albums prior to Permanent Waves, check out 2112, Farewell To Kings, and Hemishperes.
For the more 'modern-sounding' Rush, grab Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire, and Counterparts (a heavier album and one of my favorites).
Yeah, they have a lot of music. You really can't go wrong with any of them. |

Be prepared though if you are not overly familiar with their work: You might be in for a shock if you go from one period to another period 10 years later. I love it all, but Im a New World Man |

I'd say Power Windows is one of my favorites alongside Counterparts and Presto and the list goes on.
I guess you can't go wrong with a compalation album like Counterparts or Retrospectives

There are really not too many you'll go wrong with, but those two are a little more in line with what's on Moving Pictures (well, at least Permanent Waves is)

I would also recommend their 30th anniversary DVD/CD. They were in top form on that tour (2005 tour I believe) and it includes a selection of songs spanning their 30 year career. |

But if you want a follow up to Moving Pictures check out 2112 for more of that hard technical sound. If you want to hear the band evolve some... Grace Under Pressure (Geddy's bass lines on Red Lenses are awesome).
Another questions to ask (which will get me in trouble here) is what other bands are like Rush. Well... none really. But you should check out-
Yes on their album "Fragile"
Genesis on their album "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" or "Abacab"
King Crimson on their album "Court Of The Crimson King"
Emerson Lake and Palmer on their album "Brain Salad Surgery"
Asia on their album "Asia"
Marillion on their album "Fugazi"
Dream Theater on their album "Images and Words"
and lastly (I know this is controversial) a prog rock band that is always lumped in with the metal guys...
Iron Maiden on their album "Power Slave".
Ok... I got my pads on ... I am ready for the mudslinging .... |
