Looked up to him a lot in my early days of electric bass, but this is the first time I got to study him in videos for an extended period of time without the camera moving to their ****** guitarist.

This guys knows about a million techniques! His slapping style looks kind of crazy to me, but I also spotted the floating thumb and he does the picking with his thumb and three fingers! Man! Where does another guy begin?

EDIT: His fingerstyle reminds me of two chickens eating...

EDIT 2: It's unfortunate how their live soundman never seems to know how to mix the band right...

I've been impressed by his licks. He's great.

I also found out my good friend is his cousin. Small world.

I think somewhere in there is a great player waiting to get out! Sadly though I think the rest of the band has been dragging him down for a long time.

Dragging him down? I think his style has been a big part of bringing the bass back to the forefront in metal music... And I LOVE his tone!

I`m not much into their kinda music, but the guy is obviously good.

Anyway, it`s really annoying that the video shows the bass player, but the bass is mixed pretty low.

He NEEDS to find another group to at least record something with. He's a great player, if you listen to LD.50 he's got some really creative lines worked into simple songs that allows him to stand out so well, but their is no evidence of him playing without their no talent guitarist and a music style that has degraded so much since their old days (not that old but its the only reference i have)

I won't sit here and say your opinion is wrong, but I think that people often ignore the concept of a band as a whole. Seems like everyone wants to hear an all-star supergroup all the time. The beauty is that the dude's basslines fit the music perfectly. The guitarist deliberately plays simple lines to allow the bass the freedom to move around and breathe and is an idea I'd like to see more bands exploit, if for no other reason than to hear something different for a change.

lol jk, yeah dude Ryan is sick....kinda reminds me of a funkier and far more right-hand technical Cliff Burton, since they both play music that isn't always known for the best basslines.

I suppose you're right, he does fit the music well.

You know what, we need to conduct an experiment. We need to get someone who's not a bassplayer to tell us what they hear the most when they listen to mudvayne.
