That really heavy riff towards the end...
"Where can you run to? What more can you do? No more tommorow... Life is killing you."
Does that riff count as a hardcore breakdown by todays standards? |

They had something there, after that song/album....(Downhil smiley). Still some good points, but this song may have been a sort of zenith. |

Whatever anybody wants to listen to and like is fine, but for me the heaviest stuff isn't speed metal/a bizillion notes per second type stuff. The slower walking tempo stuff is just devastating.
I really love that Sabbath riff from "Hole in the Sky" too. Just stunningly heavy.
There's just no subsitute for a tight rhythm section and a good rhythm guitarist to make something chug.

That's the stupid thing about modern hardcore... it's metal. I don't give a damn about genres. I had an arguement with a friend years ago about hardcore. He said "Hardcore is more chuggy chuggy" I then played A New Level by Pantera... pure chug. He said that's Pantera's Hardcore album.
It was at that point I **** my pants.
I don't know if you listen to Stoner Rock or Doom Metal Mr. Money, but it's essentially the main genre of metal Black Sabbath created. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is a perfect example of both genres they created: Stoner rock is more... rock: Heavy heavy grooves, but while maintaining a midtempo groove, slightly more upbeat: like the first portion of the song. Doom metal is the "Hardcore" part to the song. Slooowwed down. Old school doom usually had clean vocals overtop of this, modern doom has gone in a different direction, usually more growly and epic. Doom and Stoner are basically the breakdown's to hardcore songs... not really, but for the benefit of conversation, they are. I know my band gets the "you guys sound like Sabbath" thing all the time... I blame that more on the vocalist. But it's slooww heavvvvyy rifffffsszz
Basically, Black Sabbath created the universe.

Not really that easy to play in a convincing way either. I don't listen to much hard stuff anymore but Sabbath will always live on in my heart of hearts.

The only thing I don't really like about the album is the fact that (I don't think) Geezer tuned down to a low C#! It would be even more metal if he was tuned like how (I hate to compare BS to these guys) System of a Down does.

Whu? You mean down to C? That half step probably wouldn't make that much of a difference. I don't get it. And tuning low doesn't = metal.

But on topic, SBS is a great song in how it encompasses so much. Part metal crunch, part vengeful ballad, part insane hardcore breakdown that equals massive evil ! Kick A!

| | | What about the intro to "Under The Sun/Every Day Comes and Goes" that made me go whoa that's heavy. Great outro too. Symptom, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and megalomainia(another great intro) are great too.
