Sade's "Soldier Of Love" - Zzzzzzzz

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought Sade's latest album, Soldier Of Love. I've decided it should have been called Soldier Of Blah. Talk about lacklustre. This album isn't doing a thing for me. I own all of Sade's previous albums and, while I like some better than others, I've found each one has contained a handful of songs that I've enjoyed. Not this one. Boring rhythmically, boring melodically, boring harmonically and boring texturally. Has anyone else listened to this album? Am I being too harsh or has Sade indeed mellowed to the point of utter blandness?

I think Sade has jumped the shark. Too bad, but sooner or later, it is time to stop recording, and start concentrating on the oldies!

Haven't heard CD. but thought "soldier" song was garbage! I know some artists have to change with time, but Sade isn't one of those artists.

+1 I heard a couple live performances on TV in support of this disc, and the band sounds dead, and she sounds bored and tired.

I've always been a fan of Sade, but this newest effort shows why it's been almost 10 years since her last album. Unfortunately, it's the same old thing, her usual formulaic patterns .....

But boy, she still looks beautiful and her voice seems like it's held up nicely. I think you're right, Dr C, time for the oldies-revisited tour ....

My lead singer desperately wants us covering "Soldier of Love". I don't hate it, but I'm not in love with it. He loves it though and insists that it is getting a lot of airplay, so I'm going with it. I think we'd get a lot more mileage out of "Smooth Operator", but that mighty just be because I'm a bassist.

Sad thing is, I've heard that "Soldier of Love" is far and away the strongest song on the album. I haven't listened to the whole album, but if that is true, it would be very disappointing.

I just listened to the song Soldier Of Love and I do not think it is good at all. Boring and mundane.

Here it is if you have not heard it yet.

Soldier of Love is my least favorite song on the album, but so far I'm digging the rest of it.
