SADHAPPY once again graces my speakers!

Finally replaced my ultraworn cassette copy of DEPTH CHARGE by Seattle's best-kept secret during the grunge days, SADHAPPY. This band is bass led and guitarless though it often sounds like monster guitar AND bass its just the bassist, Paul Hinklin, who's good enough to have collaborated many times with Michael Manring. And then there's electric saxman Skerik who's since played with a lot of giant names (to me anyway) like Claypool and Charlie Hunter and many others. And Eavn Schiller keeps it heavy on drums.

Man, this CD was out of print and expensive for years til I found it on CDBaby, and sounds so much better than my cassette ever did! Also picked up a live CD of a show of theirs I saw back in '92 or '93, called BEFORE WE WERE DEAD that's got Bill Frisell playing guitar on one cut.

Sadhappy could best be described as punk jazz grunge metal I suppose. Highly recommended for anyone who likes it heavy and big, wants to hear some real bass playing and atmospherics too.

These guys were killer!
Used to play The Central all the time. Was just bass 'n' drums for a long time before adding the horn.

I never saw them until they had hooked up with Skerik, but saw them a number of times at the Backstage and Rock Candy. ALWAYS HOT! Hinklin had a clean stack and a distortion stack and everybody was using mass electronics in a way that actually established a signature sound, which was somewhat out of the norm ; }
