Cool School Project Final Feedback!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey there TB! I had a final project in one of my funner music classes last quarter to make a small 6-12 minute EP kinda thing, I think it turned out pretty good (got an A), but I'd love to get some opinions from my fellow bass brothers! I can deal with whatever constructive criticism you can throw my way

and yes cheeseball titles

oh and its bass heavy with a mellow kinda mood to it.

Hmmm... Glad you got an A but I can't say I enjoyed it all that much. Maybe it just isn't my kinda music? I can appreciate the idea (one big song spread out across multiple tracks) but the execution was missing some things. Firstly, the bass was too much and didn't leave much room for anything else. Secondly, the tracks sounded almost too improvisational I didn't hear much of a solid structure in any one track. Finally, there were no dynamic changes the volume and tempo stayed almost the same throughout the whole album.

Now that I think about it, it sounded very much like soundtrack/scenery music. It would work better with an image for contextual purposes.

Yeah the final mix of it was pretty hefty on the bass. could have definitely used a bit more EQing, and I agree with the soundtrack background music comment. I do admit i wasn't trying very hard to make anything too groundbreaking. More like edited bass noodling

But I like the lay back feel it turned out with. That dessert comment cracked me up by the way

oh and I forgot to mention I used a drum machine with a loop pedal to record the tracks. (why the drums aren't very interesting)

I agree that it could use some more variation in general but that would result in a very different overall result, and that maybe wasn't what you were going for.

As it stands, it would work wonderfully as a soundtrack to an movie about 3 mobsters lost in the desert and going through several related but individual existential crises...with guns.

I enjoyed the progression of each track. For being as minimal as it were, I think you did a good job!
