In search for growl

So, if you were to do a recording with a growly bass tone, how would you record and mix it? I have a Sadowsky MS5, an EBS HD350 amp and a Ashdown ABM 4x10" cab. How would you people record the bass, maybe even what eq settings would you use, and how what would you do when mixing the bass?

It all depends on the type of growl you want. I classify it like this:

small dog: B-5, M-5, T-5
medium dog: B-7, M-3, T-4
big dog: B-8, M-1, T-3

at least thats how it works on my amp... It varies though. Just test around with the eq's and see if you come up with a good tone.
