Second single from the album - Feedback appreciated. Thin Lizzy/Iron Maiden fans?

Hey guys, the second single from our upcoming album has just been premiered. Feel free to have a listen and give some feedback. It is metal, however, the track is very melodic, so even if you're not a metal fan, give it a listen and tell me what you think. Fans of Thin Lizzy should enjoy the middle section.

Theres a bit of a studio video diary, and then the single, "An Ancient Fire Burns" is below. Unfortunately the video diary doesn't contain any footage of bass being recorded. Theres an amusing story behind that - the studio was 17miles from the nearest village, the camcorder we used for the video footage ran on batteries and they ran out. A few of the guys went off to get batteries as I started recording, a few hours later, they hadn't come back. No phone signal anywhere near the studio, so no way of contacting them. A little more time passed and the guys arrive back, sweaty and irritable. It turns out the car had broken down around 3 miles from the studio and they had to push it back. We were without a camcorder then for the few days I was recording bass.

Country fans will notice a brief section with our singer's rendition of "Chatahoochie" by Alan Jackson in the video too...

EDIT - 12/2/11 - http://www.metalunderground.com/news...m?newsid=65200

Another track premier, this one has a different sort of vibe. Its a little slower, perhaps a little moodier, its titled, "Beneath the Frozen Sky".

Thumbs up from me as well.

The Thin Lizzy flavour is definitely noticable in the guitar lines but not too in-your-face. Vocals are excellent, bass is too low in the mix ;-)

If I had any criticism it would be that the final mix seems a little too ... erm ... like excellent coffee with a bit too much cream in it? That's a completely subjective statement, of course - I enjoy a bit of rawness in a mix. But if that's not what you're going for...

I grabbed one, too (well, pre-ordered, Amazon won't have the CD for a couple of days). Don't go spending your portion of the profits on Buckfast, now ...

Uncle Fluffy, thanks for the feedback. I understand totally where you're coming from regarding the production - I actually quite like a lot of music to have quite a raw production. Hell, I like the first wave of black metal, I can dig lo-fi production! Its just not what we felt was personally appropriate for us. As you know yourself, thats got to be a personal call that won't appeal to everyone. We've received some critique from fans of our older material who preferred the rawness of older recordings we'd done.

I think when you hear the album in its entirety, you'll understand the production choice a little more! We have an acoustic folk track on as the penultimate track, leading into the final track that weighs in at 11 or 12 minutes, we felt that we needed the higher fidelity production for the benefit of the overall album, perhaps at the expense of some of the more straight-ahead songs like An Ancient Fire Burns. You'll also notice a few tracks with more prominent basslines!

Like I said to Plays for Dog, thanks so much for the support! It really is appreciated! I think I'll need a platinum seller to cover my Buckfast budget, let alone my Guinness and whiskey! Feel free to drop me a PM with feedback on the overall album when you get it!

Sounds good. I personally, would have used a bit more of compression on the drums to even out a little the dynamics, but otherwise it sounds really good. Your tone is very nice.

Hellbastard, thanks very much. Did you feel that the lack of heavy compression on the drums vastly affected the enjoyment for you? We wanted to go for a more natural, acoustic drum sound, instead of the typical triggered sound thats so common in modern metal.

It's not that it vastly affected the enjoyment, but the lack of compression did make the overall dynamics of the track a bit rough and uneven.

My copy is in the mail now, sharing a snug little cardboard box with the reissue of "Sound of Perseverance" - I hope that they enjoy hanging out together on the journey.

Good choice UncleFluffy, I presume its the remaster you're getting and not just getting it for the first time? Scream Bloody Gore and Human were always my favourite Death records, but I don't think they have a bad album!

Hope you dig the album mate! You should have it soon!

I'd say "Leprosy" as my fave, but they're all winners really. I have to admit that this is my first "legit" version - it's been sitting around on cassette for a loooong while. (When I were a lad, we ripped off music on tapes, none of this fancy MP3 nonsense).

MP3?! I don't know what you're talking about! Most of my Death collection is on vinyl! Including a first pressing of Scream Bloody Gore signed by Chuck! I don't like digitalised collections, they just look so.....insignificant!
