Absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to find anyone to jam with in these parts though
A drummer friend and i have been searching in vain for months now for a guitarist to do a Slowdive inspired project... ah well.
In any case, i sure listen to a bunch of shoegaze/noise rock/dream pop stuff. Aside from the classics like Ride, MBV, Cocteau Twins, JatMC, Catherine Wheel, Curve, Cranes, The Boo Radleys, Slowdive, Swervedriver, Swans, etc... I highly recommend some of these new(er) bands: Gliss, The Raveonettes, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, No Age, A Place To Bury Strangers, Moment Shoegaze, Autolux (awesome bass stuff!), Bardo Pond, Bufferins, Crocodiles, The Eastern Wave, Experimental Aircraft... i could go on and on......

My 2 past "Delay Jams" would totally count as Shoegaze. I should try to find em again to re-post..... or just create a new one..... |

I just came across this song on Youtube -- is it just me or does it have a "shoegazy" feel? Maybe a bit like Asobi Seksu? Ignore the cheese ball in the beginning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFLuZ...os=2HEO1oh8UjU

Principe Valiente
Their new album has been on near-constant rotation here.

+1 to the Starflyer 59 fans! My college band got to play a show with them back in the mid-nineties, and it was the best time. Jason Martin is a really good guy. Note: Only their first few albums (Silver, Gold, and Americana) and a couple of early EPs are really proper shoegaze. After that, they got progressively "cleaner", though there's still some great stuff there.
Another by-the-wayside band that didn't get their fair share of attention was Lift to Experience, out of Denton, TX. They were signed by Simon Raymonde of Cocteau Twins, and only released one album, The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads. It's like the Cure mixed with MBV and Jeff Buckley. Awesome, awesome stuff. Then the band imploded. The singer, Josh T. Pearson, went on to do some acoustic solo work after a long hiatus. It's great as well, but more country than shoegaze.
If you're into the Cocteau Twins, Sundays, etc., you may want to check out Lorelei, a new group that's doing that jangly-with-female-vocals thing.

I ask because I see Cocteau Twins mentioned, but I was listening to them for Years before I ever heard the term. By 1990 you are into their late period, almost post 4Ad. Nor do I find them emotionally neutral. They're like...normal people, not rock gods.
I did see Galaxy 500 once and it was the only time I was embarrassed for a band. Admittedly, putting them between Fishbone and RHCP was a mistake by the booker, but the poor sods were badly Out Of Tune and the bass player could hardly play... They really were gazing at their feet. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
