Just wanted to see if anyone else thought this DVD set is the bee's kneees. I've been listening to these guys for a few years but have never had the chance to see them live, so this absolutely knocked my socks off.

I was kind of hoping that the commentary would address Georg Holm's bass work but it didn't. Mostly I was curious about his acoustic bass; it makes several appearances in the film and the tone is gorgeous, rich, and warm. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that all the sound was captured live, as the director specifically mentions that there are no overdubs. You can see him using a standard P-bass during much of the film but for the smaller performances he uses the acoustic/electric. It has a great looking fretboard.

At any rate, this is a must-see for Sigur Ros fans. Fantastic cinematography and a real love for the music is on display.

I saw them in 2004 or 5.. don't really remember.
I am not really into the music but they are a must see live act.

i read a great article on Georg's gear and the recording of the bass for Takk... it was basically

Fender Jazz> EBS bass overdrive> EBS Amp (cant remember which)

then the amp was put outside in the carpark and the worst mic they could find was placed in front of it, recorded it and then compressed the files so it sounded aweful.

they ended up with an amazing album with some great bass by trying to make the bass sound bad.

genius!

Cool! I vaguely remember reading a while back that they did use some bizarro recording techniques. I really can't quantify how much I enjoy all the sounds they produce. And it doesn't come across as gimmick-y either, probably just a lot of trial and error and going "that sounds like crap-in-a-hat.....oh wait.....it might work."
