I have heard Jaco Pastorius play this riff at many shows, but I have never figured out who originally had it, until today when I borrowed my friends Sly and the Family Stone Anthology CD! Woooooow this riff is so frigging cool, and I just can’t enough of this album.

I know a recording of this song from Maceo Parker. The riff is played by the trombone, quite cool.
