Starting learning this album today, nice Bernard Edwards licks and lines. I have the record and it seems that all of the songs are 1/4 sharp. I had to tune my bass up 1/4 step to match with Bernard. I realized that on chic's "ce'st chic" i had to tune up to. Why are the tunes tuned up?

Also, holler if you dig this album. Great stuff by both bernard and nile.

I don't know why, but it's funny you mentioned that as I had to learn that song last week and couldn't for the life of me figure out why I sounded out of tune. Took me a while, but then it came to me in a flash of brilliance. The verse line is a lot of fun to play.

In ye olde days tunes were sometimes tuned up because the producer wanted a more lively (read faster) feel. It was easier, and cheaper, to speed up the tape than rerecording a good take already in the can.

What, they couldn't just use Protools?
