IMO, this is just a perfect example of how to wow a crowd with a bass solo! GROOVE > GROOVE > GROOVE

Juan Nelson is really becoming one of my favorite players. I just love the way he lays it down!

The tone is just a little too "I'm-shopping-at-the-grocery-store-smooth-jazz" to me.

Actually, the tone is pretty nice, IMHO. good bite, clarity, and punch. Definetly a smooth jazz tone, but nice for all of that, especially being a live performance. Most basses sound like A** on this type of recording, so i am impressed. What is a good tone to your ears?

I personally like something a little fatter and warmer than that. I still like clarity, but I like it with a little bit of beef or edge to it. I think his jazz bass tone is much better.

That was definitely a cool solo, I'm surprised I've never heard of this guy before. S

Well, Juan's not tiny, but he's one of the nicest cat's you'll ever meet.

That was a great funk groove being played by an amazing and extremely nice player. Sadly, some chose to look at the finger and not the moon that it was pointing at.

Not my cup of tea another funk bass player that play the kind of funk of James Brown and/or Marcus Miller hip hop oriented music.

Interesting. I've never really heard any Marcus Miller in Juan's playing/solo's.
