Quite interesting to think that tony newton was a dep for james jamerson
on a 1965 Motown tour of the uk when Jamerson had to go back to the studio.

He's one of the original Motown bassist and has played on some serious Motown tracks as well as some of the same tracks along with Jamerson(yes two basses). He was also the bass player with the famous Tony Williams, Allan Holdsworth Tony Newton trio.

check his bio (and yes he can back it up).

Had no idea about that! He must have been on a day off or something when they recorded that lesson. I kinda look like that when Iīm hung over.

Off topic: JAUQO, although I havenīt listen to much of your stuff, some 2 or 3 years back I saw a video of you playing a +4 string bass (canīt remember exacly the number of strings, 5 maybe) with this exotic slap and pick hybrid technique and man, it was a massive inspiration for me to try to think outside the box. It really sticked to me! Thanks for the inspiration men!

Yep, the lesson ainīt that bad. If I had seen this some years ago I would have discovered left hand percussive slap earlier. I just think its body language and face expression came out hilarious on this video

Tony really is a talented bass player.

Not to derail the thread.

Thanks for taking the time to check out the clip.
That was a clip of me showing a guy the basics of my technique on a 9 string Benavente.

Here's one for you.
