I dug up this older song for my Bass students...and they all simply fell in love with the song, and are addicted to the "sweet" bass solo.
Every student got through the solo, even the newbies, when I got home tonight, I found myself playing the solo over and over, and just diggin' it.
Song Info:
Title: Cage Of Freedom
Composer: Georgio Moroder
Album: "Metropolis" - Movie Soundtrack
Vocalist: Jon Anderson (from YES)
Bassist: I really wish I knew - Please Help!
Style: 80's style / Keys-Gtr Rock (typical 80's 4/4 @ 104 bpm: kick(1) snare(2) kick(3) snare(4) - tight hats in eighths [drum machine]
Bass Style: (Fretless*) Staccato punch for verses and chorus...Staccato octaves for bridge AND sweet and melodic for Solo (with a little groovin') which continues through faded ending.
* Don't let the fact that it's fretless steer you away, the song/solo plays brilliantly on a fretted too.
I am tabbing it for future reference, if anyone wants it...send me a PM.
THIS SOLO IS ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR FRETLESS (& fretted) NEWBIES!!! and really fun for pros too.
ALSO, for any bassists who don't quite know how to approach "bass soloing within a song" this is a GREAT starting point!
If you look for MP3, most likely listed as Georgio Moroder.
Let me know what you think.
