Question The Smashing Pumpkins " Zeigeist " !

I picked up the album early and I have to say I am really impressed and thus could be my favorite SP album. Amazing drumming very intense with great riffage ! Anyone else buy it yet ?

I had no idea. Frankly they lost me after Siamese Dream, but that is one of my favorite albums ever. How does this one compare?

SUPER stoked about it. The two tracks I've heard so far, "tarantula" and "doomsday clock" have me pretty excited. Is it all that heavy, MM? I'm pretty happy about the direction i'm hearing, what with the vocal harmonies and all. Hooray.

A lot of people have been knocking it but I really like Zeitgeist. Sure it doesn't have the variety of Mellon Colly but it is a great come back from Zwan. Don't get me wrong I think Corgan is a genius but Zwan wasn't his greatest moment. Zeitgeist is awesome though. Especially Tarantula and United States. Only song I don't like is Doomsday Clock because the vocals don't seem to fit the rest of the song.

Heavier more inline with later pumpkins.

Totally skipping out of work tomorrow morning to pick up the album. Also, my guitar player should be snagging me some presale tix in a few minutes.

I'm not worried about the naysayers. Every album so far has been a pretty wide departure from the last, and each time some fans have decried it as "selling out" or having "lost the spark" or something. IMO, they've been wrong, every time. I don't need or want another Siamese Dream or Mellon Collie. I already have Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I dig their lighter stuff too, I was just wondering what the mix of stuff was like.

They can never top Siamese Dream, ever. But I was surprised- the songs I've heard were good.

Speaking of which, I get Rhapsody for free at work...it's time I downloaded this record legally! Will post review soon.

EDIT: Rhapsody has it for sale only, not subscription download...I'll buy a CD copy of it tonight.

I'll let you know in a few hours. Classtime, and when I skipped out of work for a few, neither of the two record stored near my work had one.

Oh well, I'll hit a border's on the way home.

I agree. But that says as much about Brendan O'Brien as it does about Corgan. I read that he doesn't really like Siamese Dream - thinks it had too much "influence from outside the band."

I think Siamese Dream was the only Pumpkins CD that O'Brien produced?

I love what Brendan did with Stone Temple Pilots.

Me too. And, apologies for the slight hijack - but check out the Wikipedia on him to see the list of the albums he has produced and engineered. Just a few pretty important records on that list.

THAT's where your subtitle comes from. I knew I recognized it from somewhere.

Pretty impressive resume. However, I don't see any reference of the pumpkins anywhere on there?
