One of those bands whose name I always hear but who I've never listened to knowingly.
Thanks for the heads up. |

These blokes are great...I bought one of their albums way back in '89 (the one with "House that we used to live in"...
I didn't know that they were still rockin' it...fantastic!

I still gotta hear the Beatles records. Seriously, I'm so behind...

They're just a straight-ahead, no-frills, seriously-good rock band... |

I saw them back in the late 80s, an outdoor amphitheater opening up for Cheap Trick and they blew Cheap Trick off the stage. I can't remember the name of their drummer but he was up there with seriously like a 4-piece kit and just nailing down the time.
Glad to know they're still out there doing it.

They were originally released on the now-defunct Enigma label. "Especially" is available on iTunes, and you can find parts of "Beauty" (including the genius title track that out-Taxmans "Taxman") on at least one "Best of." Enjoy!!! |

| | | Here are two greatest hits collections of The Smithereens tunes, check out this CD called From Jersey It Came. This one has 39 songs on two CDs. http://www.amazon.com/Anthology-From...257239&sr=8-34
One of their greatest hits CDs called Blown To Smithereens includes a remake of The Outsiders old song called Time Won't Let Me that was in the Timecop movie. http://www.amazon.com/Blown-Smithere...5257798&sr=8-3
My current band plays Behind The Wall Of Sleep and I used to play some other Smithereens tunes like Time And Time Again, Blood And Roses, A Girl Like You, and Blues Before And After. |

"Behind the Wall of Sleep" is an awesome tune as well. My cover band did "Girl Like You" as well as "Blood and Roses". The bummer thing about covering those songs was, Smithereens tunes down 1/2 step and none of us had 2nd guitars so we'd be playing those songs 1/2 step higher than the recorded versions and they just didn't sound the same.

| | | | Every band I played in that did Smithereens songs played them in sharp or flat keys since we were not detuned and it worked out fine. My band plays Behind The Wall Of Sleep in Eb. Lots of people really like that song here and we even get requests for it. |

Doesn't hurt that DiNizio name-checks Jeannie Shrimpton and Bill Wyman.
I really need to blow the dust off that LP. |

I'm not wild about the whole 'tribute' thing, but these guys were good - *great* freakin' guitar tone on the recordings... So I'll give it a listen
