Smooth/Easy-Listening Jazz?

Sign in to disble this ad
I need some smooth, easy-listening jazz as my study music. I don't want stuff like Giant Steps or anything along that line where the chord progression is so interesting/weird. I want something (along the lines of boring jazz guitar) I can fall asleep to. Improvs are preferred to be more melodic than just throwing random stuff out at 20 notes per second. Any recommendations?

Some stuff I'm listening to right now...

A lot of Buckethead's mellow stuff
Some George Bensen
Frank Sinatra
Some Dave Brubek
Some John Scofield

Well, if you're looking for something that is as you described, but features an excellent bassist, check out some of the older Dotsero.

Their original bassist, Michael Friedman, was/is fantastic (and, on a side note, a super nice guy, to boot). He's now a solo bassist, but he can be heard on such Dotsero CDs as "West of Westchester", "Out of Hand", "Jubilee" and "Off the Beaten Path".

Even though I am not a fan of the genre, my wife is a big fan of the band and we've seen them several times. Some of the nicest musicians I have ever met and very talented as well. They live a few miles from me.

Here's their website:

I would suggest some latin jazz, I find that very easy to listen to and enjoy. Awhile ago someone posted a link where you could download a bunch of brazillian music, I find that really light and smooth. Also listen to some Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Ahhh someone mentioned Antonio Carlos Jobim before me!
Wave and its follow up album Tide are two of the most beautiful albums ever made.

I love this compilation. Includes "Angela", the theme for the sitcom "Taxi" by Bob James.
