SMV - Thunder

Just bought Thunder by SMV. I know there are probably other threads about this, but I wanted to post my own to say a few things.

First of all, it's great! It really grooves on some of the tracks, and the rest are just musically interesting.
Second, it's not a CD where all the players just show off. It's an interestingly arranged CD with a lot of great musical elements shown throughout. Sure there are parts that are incredible bass-wise, but it's not just for showing off, it's for musical purposes. I think it's great. More opinions?

I saw it in a record store today, didn't buy it. Definitely something to check out just to hear bowed upright and slapped electric on the same tune.

I picked it up right after it came out,....thought it was definitely an interesting and balanced piece of work,....from a musical and technical viewpoint,....and, it sounds like they had fun recording it, which IMHO, always shows in a recording,.... just wish they were going to be somewhere close so I could catch them live...

The Cd is basically the format they did live Friday night. They open up the middles in all the compositions, and Marcus' take on "When I Fall in Love" on Bass clarinet? well that was a nice departure.

Only heard a song or two from the album. Going to see them live in October.

Piddly diddly slap slap slap. That's the whole damn album. Over and over again.
What an over rated POS.

Give me Brian Bromberg or Roscoe Beck any day of the week.
