Nice dude! We're DT sluts together! I have now completed my DT discography after today.

Does your DVD have the burning New York Skyline too, or did I get the rare version?

I can't remember. I only looked at the case when I bought it with my uncle; we haven't opened anything yet.

Ah ok. When you open it, look on the inside cover and tell me if the skyline's on fire.

Miles Davis--The Cellar Door Sessions 1970...Michael Henderson on bass. Nice booklet included. Keith Jarrett basically calls out Marcus Miller for MM's comments made on last year's Electric MIles: Isle Of Wight DVD. In short, Jarrett sez Miller doesn't know what he's talking about.

Oteil Burbridge--Blessing. Funky stuff in an Allman Bros. vibe(sorta).

The Budos Band--The Budos Band. Bass Player recently reviewed this...they're classified as "Afro Soul". I agree. All the tracks are instrumental & harken back to old school R&B/Funk bands. Nice cover of Sly & TFS's "Sing A Simple Song".

Electric Masada--Live At The Mountains Of Madness. High energy/octane from John Zorn, Marc Ribot, et al. Trevor Dunn on bass.

Massacre--Killing Time. Noise & energy from Fred Frith & Bill Laswell. Thankfully, each tune runs only a couple minutes.

Barry Guy/London Jazz Composers Orchestra--Study II/Stringer. I will need to spend mucho time with this.

My baptism into the Japanese Free Jazz scene-
Otomo Yoshihide New Jazz Quintet--Live
Otomo Yoshihide New Jazz Quintet--Flutter

...and-
The Waitresses--Live: King Bisquit Flower Hour.
Helluva lot better than I ever anticipated. Tracy Wormworth is bad!
They can pull off "Christmas Wrapping" live, too.

My 11 year old son got a Green Day Live CD. Lots of swearing on the disc to add ostensible credibility to all that anti-establishment 'teen angst'.

'Dude just play the song.

John Coltrane "Giant Steps" (fave 'Trane album so far, had it on my computer, now I own it officially)
Art Blakey & the Jazz Messangers "Moanin'"
Cannonball Adderly "Somethin' Else"
Dexter Gordon "Go"
Freddie Hubbard "Red Clay"
Thelonious Monk Quartet w/ John Coltrane "At Carnegie Hall"
Gogol Bordello "Underdog World Strike" (my brother was really into these guys and let me burn a copy of their 2nd cd. I dug it but lost the CD. Now I got this, and I really want to see their live show.)

And the kicker! *drum roll*

Charles Mingus "Passions of a Man: The Complete Atlantic Recordings 1956-1961" 5 discs, 7 albums (6 of his own and one that he played on) + extra disc with an hour-long interview + embarrasingly thorough liner notes= Heaven for anyone who loves Mingus as much as I do (and doesn't already have all his atlantic releases already).

Jazz is the most expensive music I collect, so it's most economical to ask for it for christmas and my birthday; thus devoting my other resources to acquiring more bargain-priced music. I haven't listened to any of it yet (except the Mingus) because I'm not on much of a jazz kick right now. But when I am....oh momma!

I'd check out Stan's eponymous album and "If this bass could only talk", they rock! And I got "Influences" by Mark king, it's very very good...the first track (18:00 of prog funk) ends with a blazing slap solo from King...

I also got "The best of Larry Graham and Graham Central Station" and "Elegant Punk" by Jonas Hellborg. All great stuff!

And as for nice slap stuff, I'm listening to Kings Of Sleep by Stu hamm now...get it if you don't have it!
