So what's happening with Trip Hop and Acid Jazz these days?

Sign in to disble this ad
hey guys, I've long been a passing fan of trip hop and acid jazz, and I'd like to check them out further.

If you know of some good bands, especially more modern and experimental ones, I'd be much obliged if you posted some links.

Thanks!

I most certainly do, but honestly have been paying very little attention recently, except for working with my own project.

So unfortunately, I don't have any recommendations on any newer stuff that has come out. But it's always worth it to check out latest ninja tunes offerings.

The newest Portishead album Third from 2008 is awesome. No doubt their best one.

Yeah, me too. I found him via the Julie Maria track (it's on one of her discs) and went from there.

I think a lot of the original trip hop artists have moved on to other things, or have evolved into stuff that is "more trip and less hop" if that makes sense. i.e., still downtempo and moody, but more experimental and psychedelic, with fewer record-scratching noises and other cliches etc.

I totally agree. I am greatly looking forward to the next one. I hope it's just as weird and intense!

Check out DJ Krush with Toshinori Kondo.

Album is Ki-Oku.

Trip Hop at its best IMHO.

you can't miss with Tricky, Portishead, and Massive Attack...I was a huge fan but have since moved on to more antique prog like Guapo, aethenor, Mothlite, Ulver, Miasma and the Carousel of Headless Horses, etc.

Check them out

Ibrahim Maalouf, french-lebanese trumpetist, the only one in the world who plays a "quarter-tone" trumpet that allows him to create an oriental climate with oriental scales based upon the quarter-tones. Electro-oriental-jazz.
