That has got to be the only song in the world that has actually gotten to me. I am not one of those people that "gets" something out of songs or poetry or anything like that.
Social Distortion, lyrically and musically, are better than Nirvana. Lyrically better than Black Sabbath. Lyrically better than Tool. Lyrically better than the Eagles.
Seriously, everyone go download that song. It will impact you.
Try these also:

Don't Drag Me Down
Ring of Fire (cover)

I Fought The Law
Story of My Life
Pretty in Pink
Dear Lover
They are seriously a great underrated band. |

They are the only punk band that really has appealed to me with thier lyrics. Mike Ness is an awesome talent, and I really dig his solo stuff, too.

I highly reccommend, also, the Swingin' Utters, very similar in style to SD, though a little more personal.

Is "I Fought the Law" a cover of the oldie?

Standing alone, the lyrics don't hit you as hard. But when you hear Mike Ness' plaintive vocal, oh man, what a great song
At last we meet again dear God, hear the angels sing
The funerals are nicer when we know your there, when the angels sing
Sometimes I try so hard, to understand the things you do
Who am I to question you when it all comes down?
Hear the angels sing
Chorus: Stand up strong feel the pain
When the angels sing
Love and death don't mean a thing
Til the angels sing
The prisoners pray when they're on death row, hear the angels sing
The junkie cries for love but it's all run out, when the angels sing
The sins of the world, and its cold on the streets when your all alone
And the tears they start to fall when it all comes down
Hear the angels sing
Chorus: Stand up strong feel the pain
When the angels sing
Love and death don't mean a thing
Til the angels sing
Little by little, day by day
I watch the children play
Cause life and death don't mean a thing
Til the angels sing
When the Angel of Death comes lookin for me, hear the angels sing
I hope I was everything I was supposed to be, when the angels sing
There's gotta be a Heaven cause I've already done my time in Hell
And a little baby's born when it all comes down
Hear the angels sing

And I agree: Mike Ness' voice really does make that song. His strained voice really makes that song, and give not only that song, but that entire album, White Light, White Heat, White Trash validation. It really seems like he's been there to see alot of those lyrics, but the sincerety in his voice confirms it.
