So I have been listening to the solo albums of Roger Waters, Rick Wright and David Gilmour.
I've come to the conclusion (as I did a long time ago, it's only re-affirmed) that Rick Wright is completely underappriciated.
Now, I will say that Waters is in my top 5 bass players. His influence on me as a bass player, songwriter, lyricist and visionary is pretty high up for me. However, I do know that there has been and probably always will be a debate as to what he actually played and recorded. I won't even get into that, but I will say I do enjoy him as all things, but mostly a bass player.
Okay!!
What do you guys and gals think? Waters, Gilmour or Wright?
Now I'll be honest, I've only heard clips of Gilmours solo stuff. Some stuff I've heard, I liked and others I haven't. He's got a lot of great melodies and guitar leads, but there is something missing for me. Not to mention I think he has a good voice. In any case, I've only heard a few songs and like I said, some grab and some don't.
I've only actually listned to "The Pros and Cons..." by Waters. Honestly, I didn't like it at all. Sad really. Now I did read somewhere that his best solo effort was "Radio KAOS". I heard it was just the ****e! Also I'm told that for opera and composing and what not "Ca Ira" is pretty darn swell also.
Now I just got Wright's "Broken Chinda" today. I really enjoy it. Lots of stuff going on. Given he isn't the best singer in the world, but everything else about the album is pretty darn neato! Plus you got Pino on bass; can't argue. But all in all I really like the album. Though I haven't heard "Wet Dream" (which, if I'm not mistaken, was a total flop supposedly) or his one off project, Zee (also a flop), I really enjoy "Broken China." I was, though, disheartned to find out he didn't write the lyrics. I was under the impression he had. But the music is solid.
So... that said, what do ya'll think? And can anyone confirm or deny the things I've heard?
Thanks!!!! |
