Hey TB.. I'm just now jumping into the world of cheap-o home recording. I've got myself here a Behringer 1202FX mixer (which has served me well) and up until now I've been using mics to record my bass (from my amp) but now I'm going direct and trying to utilize my software as best as I can and I'm getting a better sound with more ease going direct. I'd very much like it if you could give me some advice on making it sound nicer and/or what could be improved.
Two very short audio recordings I've posted on YT: YouTube - ‪Audio Test 2 - Continuum Ending‬‏ YouTube - ‪Audio Test 1‬‏
What basically jumps out at me is that the recordings don't have a real "in-your-face" kind of presence. It seems a bit distant and often a little muddy and that's my main concern at the moment. (it all sounded better before I uploaded it I think.. so I suspect youtube has some sort of compression which is diminishing the sound a little bit) Thoughts?
thank ya'z very much
EDIT: I realize I should add a recording of a simple bass line to this for a more realistic example.
