There are very few albums I would buy if they were remixed, but AJFA is one. The original mix is pretty awful - this one is better, but yeah the bass is a bit too loud now (but still frickin' cool)!

Is that really Jason?

Man it sounds awesome like this. AJFA is perhaps my fav. metal album and this would only make it better. Too bad it will never officially happen.

That's definitely Jasons original bass track. You can hear certain parts match up perfectly with the original, you just have to listen super closely.

According to Jason, he used a Steinberger bass (he had at least 2) through a Gallien Krueger rig for the recording of AJFA. He played the Steinberger live on some of the early AJFA tours, along with WAL basses (3 of them) and his many, many Alembics (at least 13 ).

If you want to know anything about Jason's basses, I know it all

Wow, who knew he had awesome tone on that album!? If I could hear the entire album like this (with the bass a little quieter maybe... I understand making up for his previous inaudibility though), I think I'd want to buy a copy.

Here "One" without the guitars. Ripped from the Guitar Hero tracks.

Wow, it's almost depressing hearing that. How low he was.

Wow this is cool as hell!

IIRC in the Metallica biography, the say when recording AJFA Lars was at the mixing desk while the bass was being recorded, the slider was at one, and Lars said "Thats one too high," and dropped it down to minimum.

I like how raw it sounds, though (hypocritically) he gets a little sloppy at times. Still, it's great actually hearing some of the stuff he did, instead of just thinking I'm hearing it.

I'm in love with this. Although, I don't know if you guys know/remember, but Lokire (a TB member) re-recorded alot of the albumn with him on bass, IIRC he did a really fantastic job.

I agree these sound great, and it sounds consistent with what little you can hear on the original mixes. I also read that Jason used a Steinberger with a GK rig. The bass is there, but just buried beyond recognition. In the beginning of "AJFA" and the middle slow part, you can hear the bass tones that resemble these remixes kind of lurking beneath in the original, but now it's really out there! Yeah, maybe it's a little too loud but better than nothing as it was originally!! It would be great if Metallica would officially remix this (and hell, why not RTL and MOP with a bit more bass too!).

I agree. Megadeth did it with all of their old albums, I think Metallica can and should too.

I noticed Jason's style had stayed quite the same throughout the years, he sounds very similar here. http://youtube.com/watch?v=iB7UzDwVff0

same with the live version of "Harvester of Sorrow" on the year and a half in the life of pt2 video-

sounds like a completely different song with Jason audible.
