Booker T. Jones (of Booker T and the MG's) recently made a great record called "The Road From Memphis" with the rhythm section from The Roots, and various guests, including Sharon Jones and Lou Reed.

Go to youtube and google Chris 'daddy' dave and friends. He and Pino Palladino have been touring the globe with a 4 piece band and playing nothing but improvisational funk, neo soul, and jazz grooves. There are dozens of their appearence on youtube.

I discovered Van Hunt a while back and really dig his stuff. "Character" is my favorite song by him.

Glad you liked the Robert Glasper cut.

Here's something else I've been playing a lot of: "Too Tough to Die" by Neneh Cherry and the Thing. It takes a minute or so to build, but it turns into some nasty gutbucket R&B with a wicked jazz edge. Neneh is the stepdaughter of Don Cherry, the avant-garde trumpeter:

So disappointed .. The funk/soul band I was hoping to join turned me down (not because of my playing) because I live 4 hours away from their home base and had two previous members quit because of long travel times so they didn't want to chance another. Now the only other band that wants me (in my area) is a Rock band. For a guy who likes funk and soul and loves to play deep in the pocket and create musical highs on stage,, playing lines along with rock guitar lines is sooo depressing ... Sorry for the rant , my wife is no way a musician and I need someone who understands.

I've been listening to Jose Jones "No Beginning No End" today. I think it would certainly qualify.

Check out Electro Deluxe. A killer jazz/funk band from France. They have a killer bass player named Jeremie Coke.

Do someone put Dirty Loops on the list

Got a chance to hang with Henrik Linder @ Marcus Miller's studio yesterday. He seems like a very nice guy.... A Monster Talent!
