Songs that became hits because of the bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I just heard the ol 80s song "Sad Eyes" in the car. Super simple bass line, but awesome in my opinion - and I don't think the song would have been a hit without it. I thought it might be a good idea to see what songs ya'll can come up with who's bass lines are a HUGE hook in the song - songs that may not have been succesfull without them.

Perfect example #2.

Silly Love Songs

Your turn....

When Doves Cry.

I imagine that if that had a bassline (which it actually did, but Prince took it out during mixing), it wouldn't have been as big as it was.

Sometimes it's more important to not play than to play. Braver, too.

Not a hit as such, but Metallica's Orion is best known for Cliff's bass part during.

My Sharona by The Knack might qualify though.

I'm really surprised people haven't brought up this one:

Local H- Bound to the Floor

It's pretty recent, and the most prominent thing about it is the bassline.
