I've been wanting to make a cd of all 90's alt rock/grunge songs with some good basslines, but i'm having a hard time thinking of any outside of red hot chili peppers and the like. So, let's see what kind of a list we can get going. I'm really looking for those songs that don't get played on the radio anymore, if ever. Thanks for any help TB'ers

And i gotta say, I'm not the world's biggest Nirvana fan, and "Heart-Shaped Box" is far from my favorite song of theirs, but man, the bassline in it is massive. When the chorus hits, Novoselic is spitting out these three-dimensional detuned slabs of nasty goodness I really dig.
To me, a couple of the truly classic albums from that era (and ones that rarely--if ever--get radio play) are:
MELVINS- Bullhead
MUDHONEY- Superfuzz Bigmuff

I'm not absolutely positive one or both of them wasn't actually released in the late 80s, come to think of it...

Also, try some Alice Donut, Helmet, Surgery, Tad and MindFunk for some serious low-end awesomeness. |

I was gonna suggest their Houdini album of you're going for a real 90's aesthetic, but their more recent stuff ups the awesome ante. Quote:

The Beastie Boys' work from the Ill Communications period would probably apply. Adam Yaught had some good tones.

Edit: sorry I just read the grunge part. So some of this list might not fit that description. |

Did Screaming Trees or Meat Puppets really have any songs with good bass lines? I know Hole had a few, but not sure about those two. This is great! More bands are being thought of here then what I could think of. Keep the suggestions coming. When I've gotten threw all of them, I'll let you guys know my finished product(s). Thanks again!
