Iron Maiden - The Fallen Angel, because when I downloaded it on Morpheus, it got me into Iron Maiden (which is my favorite band of all time). Then I got into more metal, like Iced Earth (which is my second favorite band of all time). So yeah...it changed me forever.
Fates Warning - A Pleasant Shade of Gray (as a whole song) & Queensr˙che - The Mission, because these two were my introductions into both bands and into Progressive Metal as a whole. They are both high on my favorite bands of all time list.
Agalloch - In The Shadow Of Our Pale Companion - amazing band. They are easily my third favorite band of all time. This song got me into harsh vocals, which then allowed me to listen to Amon Amarth & Opeth (which are two more of my favorite bands of all time).
Led Zeppelin - The Battle Of Evermore, because it got me into loving Zeppelin, and allowed me to branch out into older, classic rock.
Deep Purple - Child In Time, same reason for Zeppelin.
Metallica - Enter Sandman, my first taste of metal.
Rush - La Villa Strangiato, got me into loving Rush. Nuff said.
U2 - New Years Day, allowed me to get into old awesome rock like U2 and the like.
Explosions In The Sky - The Birth And Death Of Day - my first taste of Post-Rock. I LOVE this genre!!
Godsmack - Keep Away. This got me into hard rock, and I love this song still...have been for 11 years!
Witchcraft - Walk In Between The Lines - got me into Stoner Rock/Doom Metal!!!

#1 though is 'As I Am' by Dream Theater, it taught me what talent was in music, and that slipknot sucks.

I first heard this song at a friends house when I was probably 9 or 10 years old and I thought it was the coolest song ever. I was never into music before then but I convinced my parents to get me some of their albums. They ended up buying me the Red Album (62-66) and I later bought the Blue Album (67-70) with money I saved. That song wasn't on either one of those recordings and, in fact, it wasn't until years later that I found it was on the Let It Be album but by that time I was totally into the Beatles and, in turn, total into music. I've never looked back. So I can honestly say that it was that one song that started it all for me.

-I love it loud, by Kiss.
I got interested in being a musician because of this. Don't ask me why, because I just don't know, but ths started it all for me...
-Breaking all the rules - Frampton.
First song I played live. Borrowed a guitar from a friend, didn't know how to tune, so I busted the high E and B strings. Played the theme of the song and an improvised bass line, and that was it. Became bass player after that. |

the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle notwithstanding (which implies more or less that you can not not be changed by hearing any piece of music), I find it hard to believe that so many posters are listing so many tunes. OP listed 88 tunes that "changed him forever"! Dude, get some backbone! Don't be so easily swayed by every little song that comes down the pike!
(j/k)
The only album I owned from the age of 4 until the age of 10 was The Beatles' Rubber Soul, so I'm gonna bet that some of the tunes on that album changed me forever. |
