I'm not talking about hearing your favorite classic rock song in a commercial and being upset by it, or hearing a song used un-tastefully in a commercial (Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire in a Hemorrhoids cream commercial...lol), I'm talking about companies completely re-writing songs and completely butchering them for their own personal gain.
This ad came out recently in Canada, sorry if this is old news for fellow US TBers.

Another really popular commercial from a few years back used a song by Eddy Grant - a very beautiful song about hope during the Apartheid...
What they used it for... f***ing yogurt drinks
What was once ''Gimme hope, Jo'anna'' (Jo'anna for Johannesburg, South Africa) will now forever be engrained in our memories as ''Give me Yop, me mama''

I personally think the use of songs in commercials (as tasteful or un-tasteful as they may be) is fine just as long as the artist's rights are observed. But this, the complete massacre of original songs should be banned, outlawed and punishable by death (and I'm against capital punishment lol)!
What do you guys think? Anyone have other examples?
