I am a huge fan of the VH1C's Classic Album Series...
It always hits me when someone doesn't get a songwriting credit for some exceptional studio work...

My example to start the thread...

Lou Reed Walk on the Wildside..

Bass part makes the song and the bassist was paid $15 an hr and double scale for playing both Upright and electric...

Any other great examples?

"Gonna Tear Your PlayHouse Down" by Paul Young, with Pino Pallidino laying down the fretless octiver line that put that tune on the map (as well as that sound).
Also, used on Pete Townsends "Give Blood"-Pino and the fretless/octiver.
Both ass kickin' tunes BTW.
