Songs You Have To Listen To Together

Sign in to disble this ad
Did you ever notice that certain songs, that are sequential on an album, go so well together that you can't listen to one without the other?

Examples, pardon the early '90s emphasis -

- "Them Bones" and "Dam That River" on Alice in Chains' "Dirt"
- "Cherub Rock" and "Quiet" on Smashing Pumpkins' "Siamese Dream"
- "Breakerfall" and "God's Dice" on Pearl Jam's "Binaural"
- Anything on "Dark Side of the Moon" without the rest of it

What are yours?

Most of the first side of Moving Pictures by Rush needs to be listened to as a whole IMHO.

(LOL - old skool vinyl listener here, who says "first side" anymore!)

We're Only In It For The Money in its entirety.

Joan Crawford and Don't Turn Your Back - Blue Oyster Cult (well, I could listen to the latter all day on its own, but if I hear the first I MUST hear the second)

Where the Streets Have No Name, Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, and With Or Without You - U2

"Sweet Sweet" and "Luna" go together so much that I fused them on my iPod. I actually scuttled Silverf*k, I dom't have the HDD space available for all that space in the middle.

I think that basically any song off of Dream Theater's "Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence" album should be listened to all as one, maybe not so much the first cd, but given that the second cd is basically all one song, it should definatly be listened to all at once.

Not to mention Dispositon > Reflection > Triad on the same CD, and Wings for Marie > 10,000 Days on their newest.

The Marts Volta also split up a couple songs like this on Frances the Mute.

It isn't that I don't like the song, it's just too long and I always skip the middle part. Similar is "Drown" from the Singles soundtrack- the first four minutes are as good as any other Pumpkins song I could name, but I can do without all the feedback and vamping after that point.
