I can see where it comes from though. As a child of the 80's I had a steady diet of hard rock/heavy metal. Didn't want your buds knowing you liked a Prince or Duran Duran song.
Anyway, these days I might occasionally play along with a KISS tune off the Dynasty album (yes, the Dynasty album), Sure Know Something. I just dig the bass line.
Mock me if you will. I am immune to your disdain |

So embarrassing, but it's a great pop tune with a killer bass line.
Excuse me, I now need to go listen to large quantities of Rush, Primus, Slayer, and Flogging Molly.

| | | | This ones easy, but it shows my age. Its 1969, I am really into Hendrix, late Beatles, Traffic, Stones, Doors, Janis..REAL Rock and Roll in other words. My sister, three years younger is playing "I Want You Back" by the Jackson 5 incessantly, and the damn song hooks me. I still play the bass lines but only when I am at home alone.

I must confess that until a couple of years ago, I actually had some Poison on my iPod. And I admit that I do get tingles of nostalgia when I hear some Bon Jovi & Def Leppard.
Yes, I know... I'm a dirty, dirty boy.
Btw, interesting to read that some people regard Paul McCartney's "Silly Love Songs" in that respect. For me, that song is before my generation. It was one of the songs that my dad listened to when I was about 3 years old (he was into the Wings). So I kind of regard it more with mystique of my really early childhood.
Taking this waaayyy off topic, but speaking of The Wings, does anyone know a song called "Temporary Secretary"? That's a really weird tune, no joke, and I remember that song being the one that really got my attention as a 3-year-old. Also liked the Beatles "Helter Skelter" as an infant. |

| | | | Thanks for bumping this, I've wasted an awesome 45 minutes reading (and chuckling) through this thread here at work.
I must say I am happy to hear others list Avril Lavigne as a guilty pleasure cause damn I love her. Her first album came out when I was in college and I couldn't stop listening to it. My roomate would put up with it, since I also blasted plenty of Beatles and Foo Fighters to make up for it, and being the good friend that he is, he never mentioned it to anyone else we partied with. 'Girlfriend' is just an awesome song and there is one other that I can't remember the name of (I think it's "Everything back but you") sick little punkish song and catchy as hell.
Haven't really listened to any of her other albums, but I still remember seeing that video for 'complicated' for the first time... a chick who can play guitar, plays punk (I was/am really into Green Day and Blink) AND is hot?!? Can a woman get better? I submit that one cannot!
