Sound Samples of my SX SJB-75 and Douglas WEB-825

The holidays gave me time to put together a couple of tune samples highlighting the sounds of my SX SJB-75 and Douglas WEB-825 (now a lined fretless).

My guitar playing's a bit rusty since I have a bass in my hands more often than not. It was fun recording these nonetheless. Equipment and settings that I used are in the vids.

Hope you enjoy.

Great comparation.

I want one of those.
But what about your opinion... SX Jazz Bass or Douglas Web 825?

I play all type of music.

Thankyou.

Sorry it took so long for a reply. Just got your PM

Generally speaking, I like both brands although I've leaned towards Douglas over the years. You pay more for the Douglas (albeit still allot of bang for your buck) but I feel the quality and feel is bit better overall. Both brands require work to various degrees to bring them up to playing speed.

The main feature about Douglas basses that I really like are the necks. I find the maple to be harder and less prone to changes with weather (humidity). I like the satin finish and the overall feel. The preamps on the Douglas basses aren't the greatest and probably the weakest feature.

If you're looking for an all around budget passive bass that has great tone out of the box, the SX Jazz is a good choice. If your looking for a reasonably priced active bass, the 825 is fine from a playability perspective, but you may not get the tone you're looking for with the stock electronics.

Keep in mind that my 825 is unique in that it's a lined fretless and passive. I bought it for the sole purpose of modding it to meet my specific needs for playing jazz without having to spend allot of money.

I should also mention that the SX 5 string lined fretless basses are hit and miss out of the box and can be difficult to get a good set up. This is because the rosewood fretboards are not very level. I recently worked on one for a friend (and fellow TB member) and it took quite a bit of sanding to get the fretboard level.

Hope this helps in your decision.

Thanks for your answer!

Really help me so much, and I want to buy the douglas bass and then I will buy EMG or Bartolini type J pickup.

Thanks one more time.
