Spent the weekend recording........

I spent the weekend in Pearl, MS (outside of Jackson) recording rhythm tracks for the original chick rock project I'm in. We did it at what used to be the old IRS studio and it all went very well. We laid down 12 songs (rhythm tracks only, with a scratch vocal and guitar) in about a day and a half (a loooong day and a half)! We'll be going back later this month to finish with guitar and keyboard parts, and vocals. Then mixing and mastering and hopefully the CD should be finished in August. I will post some of the songs on my buddy's server when they are done so you guys can listen to them.

Now for the technical mumbo-jumbo. It was recorded to a hard disk recorder, which the engineer will then send to Nuendo. The rest of the recording will be done in Nuendo. I plugged my bass into a Dan Alexander copy of an old Neve preamp and then to the hard disk. The drums were miked through a vintage Trident console. I played my Modulus on all but 3 songs. I used my fretless Yamaha on two and the engineer's Roscoe 6 string on one. So there you have it. I'm very excited about this project and wanted to share my joy!

Sounds like alot of fun. Seems like you had your stuff togather before you went in. A lot of people use there expensive studio time for creating and not just recording, that wastes a lot of money.

It also sounds like they recorded on some good equipment. I bet those drums are goign to sound killer thru that console. I am looking forward to hearing the outcome of it all.

It was fun, but a lot of work too. We had the tunes well rehearsed, so that was a plus. The engineer is a great keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist so we did jam on some old Miles and some improv stuff while the "tape" was running. After we had finished working, of course!
