| Stanley Clarke: Double up on Life Suite I-IV?

I was just revisiting some the music I used to listen to constantly when I first started playing bass. One of these albums happens to be Stanleys self-titled album from '74 - what a great album that still is! Something's bugging me, though - the featured version of Life Suite is completely different from the one on The Bass-ic Collection. But the liner notes of the latter state that this version was also recorded in '74, by the same constellation. The notes even state: "From [the album] Stanley Clarke".
So what's up - is the version from Bass-ic Collection an outtake (a different composition considered for the album) from the Stanley Clarke sessions or are the liner notes wrong about being from '74? Or do I have a non-standard edition of the Stanley Clarke album (it's the Sony/Epic "Columbia Jazz" edition from '91)?
