Stanley Clarke - I Wanna Play for You (Live, 1979)

Sorry if this particular topic/track had already been discussed here:

Stanley Clarke - I Wanna Play for You (Live, 2LP, 1979. Epic)

Track: I Wanna Play for You -
bass solos are obviously played by Stanley, but what about the main bassline? It sounds pretty much like a synth job, anyone knows how it was done on that record?

many thanks,
lw.

I saw a show from the tour they recorded. Stanley's tech came out and played support bass on a couple songs. I don't recall Stanley doing "I Wanna Play For You" that night but he played "Quiet Afternoon" and this guy came out and played Stanley's bass while Stanley played piccolo. I talked to him briefly after the show, never caught his name, but he was Stanley's tech.

Yeah, it was not uncommon for Stan to have a backup bassist. It might still be Armand Sabal Lecco, as he was playing with Stan a couple of years ago. I think Kai Eckhardt even played backup bass for him back in the day! What a show that must have been, they are both monster players!

Ya. Back then, though, he used someone I never heard of before or since.

AllMusic.com lists David DeLeon as playing bass on that record.

Another guy who played bass bass in Stanley's band was Jim Earl, a fine bassist who can be heard in Jimmy Kimmel's house band. When I was at Berklee, Jim Earl was the bass player that everybody wanted to play with.

It seems funny to think of a bassist having a bass player! But Stan is the man!
