Well I did a search and I found a couple threads where people have done the Star Spangled Banner, but they're so old the audio isn't up anymore. Also, I haven't posted anything on here before I don't think... so, why not! Here you go: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page...songID=7938628
Check it out and let me know what you think! I know this kind of rendition isn't for everybody, but I can tell you the crowd goes nuts when I pull this stuff out at gigs, hahaha. Down the road I'll be getting a vibrato arm installed on at least one of my basses for some more fun noisemaking, and maybe I'll actually practice this piece and incorporate a little more improvisation... lots of fun! |

One night, we played to about 1,000 guys on a huge crew change. They'd been drinking since 3pm. We took the stage at 8pm. Our guitarist started with the Hndrix version of Star Spangled Banner. Big mistake.
From that, he immediately launched into the opening bars of All along the Watch Tower. Second big mistake.
The crowd started jumping up and down. Then started pushing he other. Then started punching each other. It snowballed and escalated and spreadout.
Our singer hadn't even started singing and we killed the song as the MP's rushed in.
At the end of the night, we got the regular "good show boys", with an added twist. "Please, do not play Star Spangled Banner again".
Memories.

I recorded this with my Voodoo Lab Proctavia -> Voodoo Lab Superfuzz -> Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe -> an Orange Tiny Terror -> Celestion Greenback speakers. I've been getting some pretty cool tones with that amp and those speakers. |

I really love that set up you have with the Tiny Terror and wish I could afford something similar. I'm definitely gonna look up some more info on the the Micro Vibe pedal, sounds very cool. |

I never was able to get the right sound with most Uni-Vibes and a dirty tone, including the Micro Vibe, until I figured out to run the Micro Vibe after a relatively light fuzz and then into a dirty amp. That setup seems to be the best way to get what I want, though the Micro Vibe is also great just before an overdrive or after a fuzz. And of course it's excellent for a nice modulation on clean tones as well.
As for the key, I'm just playing in E, but I tune down a half step so it's actually Eb. For pretty much everything I've recorded, if I even bothered tuning up my guitar before recording, I'm likely in Eb standard. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
