That's awesome, great video. I actually got to meet Chuck Rainey at a Bela Fleck show not too long ago with Pete Skjold. He was standing outside the venue with Vic before the show and Pete knew him so we got to chat a few minutes. Pete told me Chuck had told him that same story about them not wanting him to slap, and that he turned away from them during the Chorus to hide his slapping. He said they didnt even notice till mixing time when they realized his sound had changed hehe.

You go Chuck!

I bought the video at Border's for about $10 a few years ago. Great stuff.

The whole DVD is available on amazon. Chuck Rainey pulls of plenty of riffs on that one, and it gives a track-by-track breakdown, with numerous interviews, on the whole Aja album.

Chuck also has an amazing memory, and seems to recall the details of just about every session he's ever done. Pretty impressive for one of the worlds most recorded bass players.

Agree about Rainey's memory.
There was a thread about who played bass on Cheryl Lynn's "Got To Be Real"...I recall reading way back when that Rainey was the bassist; a few disagreed, so I e-mailed the man & he replied with a lotta detail about the session for that tune. I posted the e-mail...still, some were disbelievers.

Not sure if that thread is still around(I forget how many Talk Basses that was in the past).

...and the Making Of Peg DVD is very cool. I've heard the same good things said about the Making of Songs In The Key Of Life DVD

Damn, Rainey played "Got To Be Real"? (I missed that thread [I think]). I gotta tell you though, there may be a whole lotta 'technically advanced' players and I'm sure Chuck is one of them but the irony is most cats who play on hit records and such are basically simple players who play 'simply' and 'tastefully'!

I dig!

Oh, I plan on buying that DVD.........soon!!
