Stoner/Doom Metal Sound

I recorded this riff from one of my band's songs ( Laughing Buddha ) . It went Bass > Digitech bp 200 > Laptop. I used Cool Edit Pro for recording this. Need some feedback about the sound . Any tips on bettering the sound ? I feel the tone's a bit sharp. But this was after zero treble on my bass and pedal. Any feedback appreciated . Cheers

Personally, I use would use higher gain and roll off the highs on my bass a bit to control the distortion. I'd definitely leave most of them coming out of the pedal. And I'd use plenty of mids as well to maintain bite. With guitars, I would expect those highs to blend in and make a wonderful wall of sound. If not, I'd lowpass filter the very top end after the pedal somewhere. But I consider them essential for maximum fuzz.

Other than that, it's all in how you play. No offense, but you could tighten up a little.

Thanks for the feedback. That's the outro of the song. I used a friend's five string to record that one while i personally play a 4 string. So had to adjust a bit with the string spacing. I'll increase the gain a bit and record it with my 4 string and put up the recordings soon.

Don't be cookie cutter, don't be one of those ahabs that thinks you have to sound just like Geezer Butler/Al Cisneros/Scott Reeder, otherwise you're not doing it right. Find your own damn stoner rock tone.

I don't think it's bad, I think the only reason it sounds bad is because you went from your digitech straight to the laptop. I think distorted bass sounds weak recorded direct. I'd imagine coming through a decent enough rig, that tone would be totally cool. All you need is a tube amp, and enough lows to shake the earth.

Yup, I finally got my perfect sound. Played around with my pedal a bit and went through my new Behringer. Sounded awesome. Had a gig recently . Bass supposedly was killer on the PA. Salvation

It's definitely too fast for "doom", but it's not too fast for "stoner." However, it doesn't groove, which is very, very key!
