Anyone else given this release a spin yet? I'm a bit Tom Morello fan, and a big fan of The Coup, so I was pretty stoked to learn about this coming out.
I guess when you spend 15+ years in a band with someone, some influence is bound to rub off on you, but wow. I wasn't expecting Tom Morello's bass playing to sound just like Tim Commerford's. He's got that same growl ALL OVER this album. I like it, though. It fits well with the style and almost feels like a next progression of RATM.

He says he used a Fender Precision and 5 string Ibanez ATK to record.

I didn't really know what to expect from them but Tom Morello and SSSC were great. I heard the album and like it but felt that it came across even better live. They do a cool cover of M.I.A. paper planes.
It was great when Tom got up and did Mountain Song with Jane's. It was the last show of the US tour and looked like they were having a great time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCc4W4pXsXM
The sound sucks but the clip gives the great vibe of the show. |

Maybe he formed this band so he could finally let loose (the fact that there's second guitarist backing him up also suggests this) but I'm not sure if this is helping the music any. That said, I like the singer/rapper and some of the grooves are pretty neat. |

I didn't really know anything about them until the day of the show as I was invited by a friend. I'm a fan of RATM and to a lesser extent Audioslave and have always dug The Coup so it was very cool.
Morello's live tone is so incredibly massive. NIN were pretty good though they went on when it was still daylight outside which is a weird environment for NIN. Jane's Addiction was a bit disappointing (and I find Perry Farell's patter annoying) but the rhythm section was tight and they sounded pretty good considering. |

Trent's one of my favorite singers (not a huge fan of NIN though).

I guess he resurrected the blue Arm The Homeless guitar, in place of that strat he was using for Audioslave.....
Boots and Saul Williams sure look alike, don't they?
