| | | I actually posted it a while ago, but the thread sort of died off. So I gave it ye olde bump.
Stu said the Bx3 Tour is going quite well, albeit they are freezing their butts off |

| | | | Yep. I have it. (of course).
I enjoyed it a lot. He does some of his old stuff, some GHS, and some new stuff on it.
Well worth the money if you enjoy bass.
The first half is from the previous Bx3 tour, the 2nd is from a one-off gig he did in san francisco with a few guys from Teatro Zinzanni. (Stu played bass for them for a few years). |

Shame really - the Urge's are just not as cool. I thought it was a bit of a sell out when Stu went with Fender following the Fender/Kubicki split - I guess the level of support that Fender can give is a big thing for a working semi-famous musician like Stu.
Getting back on topic (ish) it would be great if BX3 added some UK dates...

| | | | In the Stu clinic on bassplayer.tv he talks about that. His beef with the Kubicki is that it just didn't sound like a bass. While that was fine for his own music, when in the studio or with others it didn't sound as good. He always ended up using P and J's while in the studio or with others so he decided he'd use that for the base for his new bass. He also said he was the first to have an artists model line fender bass.
I'd tend to agree - in my kubicki days I had all sorts of funky bass pod settings to make it more deep & bassy when playing oh, lets call it, normal bass. It was pretty great for tapping though.
Then I moved onto my Urge II, which I loved a lot for a while (It is ridiculously good for slap), until I got a warwick, which I loved for a while, until I got a rosocoe. I'm now done with bass procurement.
As for tone, listen to the RFA version of RFA and then listen to it on Live Stu. I prefer the live stu version (played on Mel, of course). The bass is deeper and sharper and just plain sounds better, imho. |
