Sufjan Stevens - The Avalanche

Anyone else looking forward to the release on July 11th?!

I'm betting on emusic.com having it and if they do, as I expect, I'll be downloading it that day.

For those of you who know of Sufjan but didn't know of this album - "Come on Feel the Illinoise" was originally intended to be a double album and this is the rest of the material that would make up the other half originally. It's getting great early buzz.

Wow, Brad, you're the LAST person I expected to listen to Sufjan.

I wasn't going to pick it up, but I read that Sufjan went back into the studio to re-record all the songs, as in, he never recorded them to begin with, so it doesn't seem like a scam to capture "illinoise" fever.

That said, Oregon or Rhode Island are going to be his next released.

Yeah, I agree. My latest favorite tune from him is Romulus off of Michigan.

I sometimes throw on Enjoy Your Rabbit too.

Enjoy your rabbit threw me TOTALLY off guard. My friend threw it on and thought it wasn't even Sufjan until he told me.

I found about sufjan about a year ago through england's uncut magazine... i think illionise was voted album of the month on the issue i got... downloaded a couple of his albums and been listening to them a lot... really great stuff... what i read is that he's planning on releasing one album ofr every state in the usa... do you think he'll ever get to release them all???
i was going through a few of the song titles in illinois and michigan and did a search on the internet... really cool the way he does a research and all and writes a song about very small events that took place in each state... does anybody outside illinois know for example about casimir pulasky??

He won't try to release all the albums about the states, and he won't do a "gimmick" songwriting thing, but he'll write really good songs and have titles that will reference to the state them (see: The Seer's Tower)

Definately one of the best guys out there writing music right now. He's got great melodies and crazy orchestrating skills. Good live too.

He's also one of the few guys outside of prog who will write catchy songs in crazy meters.

I'm goint to buy tickets for his Sept. Austin show tomorrow if they aren't sold out. One of the two dates sold out (tix went on sale Saturday) already but I won't have money for that until tomorrow.

Currently downloading the new album. Would have done it earlier but I'm in a workshop all day and I'm on my lunch break. I will probably listen to it several times between now and tomorrow.

Just bought tickets for the Sept. 16th concert with My Brightestest Diamond at the Paramount in Austin. WOO-HOO!
The seats aren't good but I didn't have the jack to buy them until today so I had to settle.
